Weatherpro power awning troubleshooting4/19/2023 Remove the 3 bolts that hold the motor in place using a 10mm wrench or socket.Pull the wires up to access the quick disconnects and unplug the motor.Remove the front and back covers from the motor on the right side of the awning. This prevents the awning from unrolling completely when the motor is removed. Tie the awning arms off to the bracket where it attaches to the side of your RV.Use the manual override if the motor is completely dead. Tools Need: Philips Screw Driver, Ratchet with 10mm socket With Amazon Prime I was able to get the motor in 2 days and replacing the motor only take about 25 minutes. Here is a link if you need to order one Solara Power Awning Motor On Amazon. I purchased a replacement motor on Amazon for under $200. Step-by-step: Replacing the Motor on a Solara Power Awning If you get to this step you might have to get a dealer involved. If the motor checks out ok and bypassing the switch doesn’t make a difference you will have to try and trace the wires looking for any loose connections or broken wire. If the awning extends and retracts properly you need to replace the switch. Remove awning switch then, using a short piece of wire connect the 12V power terminal to the extend and then retract side of the switch. The next thing to check is the switch connections. If the awning moves correctly than the problem is in the wiring or switch. You can test the wiring by unplugging the awning motor and connecting wires directly to your battery or another 12V power source. It could also lead to an electrical fire. Try running the awning with the meter on the battery and disconnected from shore power, if there is a large drop in voltage your battery is bad.īad or loose wiring – A broken wire or loose electrical connection will prevent the awning from getting enough power to work properly. If you are plugged into shore power you should be getting over 12v. The easiest way to check your power is with the battery meter built in to your RV.įor a better check place a volt meter across your battery and see what it reads. Low 12v power – This could be caused by a bad battery or the 12v converter in your RV may have failed or be failing. Here are the items to check for power problems: Be sure to adhere to Weather Pro's wire gauge recommendations and add fuses at positive power before switches. If the awning motor doesn’t receive power, it will not be able to extend or retract your awning. Total expense for this project $ 40.00+. If you have no need for the wind sensor or hand remote, or remote switch in storage, wire awnings direct for longer motor life and trouble free operation. Both motors now work with gusto from inside the coach and i am getting 13+- volts to the motors. Rewired the new switches (12 AWG) direct to awning motor and door awning motor and reinstalled in original position to the left of passenger seat. I then removed and replaced the Winny switches which do not have sufficient amp rating to handle the job. I bypassed the Winny wiring harness and ran new 10 AWG lines to breaker in front electrical cabinet. The switch i am using is peak rating at 30 amp, twice the fused value of the awning requirements. ($260-300) I decided instead to eliminate the control box altogether and use two DPDT momentary reverse polarity switches, (Amazon, DC Momentary Reversing Rocker Switch double pole double throw) ( one for the patio awning, the other for the door awning. I decided to replace the A&E control with one designed for the 9100E, but changed my mind when i determined how much they cost. (Bad Idea!!!)įrom the start the awning did not work properly. The brand new unit was hooked to the original A&E control box. The OEM awning was replaced with Dometic's Weather Pro 9100E. At one point I replaced the original A&E Power awning because the motor was diagnosed as being defective and a replacement was not available because of Dometic's take over of A&E. My 02 Winnebago Journey has for some time been troublesome in regard to the awnings tendency to stop during extention and/or retraction.
